“As your County Commissioner, I will commit everyday to working in your interest, safeguarding your Tax Dollars, preserving the Environment, promoting Public Transportation, and responding to your concerns.”

In 1970, Janet was born in Ypsilanti, MI. At 6 months old her parents moved to Dania, FL and then on to Miami, FL where her brother Vaskin was born in 1974. Upon returning to MI in 1978, Janet's family settled in Dearborn Heights. Her father became the 20th District Court Administrator and a few years later the City's Magistrate. He held these positions for 16 years until he retired. Her mother, Jean, was busy with many activities including: being a Girl Scout Troop leader (Troop 2578), taking Janet and Vaskin to soccer practice (Dearborn & Dearborn Heights Soccer Clubs), and working nights for Oakwood Hospital. Her brother Vaskin is a current member of the Dearborn Heights Fire Department .

Janet enrolled at Divine Child Grade School in 1978 and graduated from Divine Child High School in 1988 . She takes pride in her Alma Mater and has served as an Alumni Newsletter Editor and past Alumni Board member. Janet has fond memories of her “band days” at DC, where she started playing her first instrument, the trumpet, in fourth grade. She went on to add the Sousaphone (marching band), Flugabone (valved trombone for jazz band), and the Baritone and Tuba (concert band) to her repertoire of instruments. In her senior year, Janet leapt out of the orchestra pit and onto the stage to portray Sister Sophia in the much loved musical ‘The Sound of Music'. After graduating, Janet enrolled at HFCC subsequently transferring to Lawrence Technological University to graduate with a BSBA in Accounting in 1995.

After working in the public accounting field for several years, Janet returned to school and acquired her MBA with a major in Finance and a minor in Taxation from Wayne State University in 2000 . After graduation, Janet pursued a career in financial services. In the same year Janet applied for a City Council vacancy created when Councilman Zulinski resigned. While being passed over for the appointment, Janet decided to run for the seat in the regular election in 2001. Her grassroots, door knocking campaign, hard work, and support from her family enabled her to be elected in November 2001 and Re-Elected in 2005.

During her almost 7 years on the City Council , Janet has scrutinized City contracts, encouraged more efficiency throughout the City, and worked with other Council members to spend tax dollars effectively. She introduced E-packets as a way to better communicate with the public and increase file storage capability while reducing paper and costs. As always, Janet is not afraid to ask tough questions!

Janet believes in community service and participates in many activities: former Divine Child Alumni Board member, Ecorse Creek Clean Up volunteer, Dearborn Heights Goodfellows, past Dearborn Heights Democratic Club Dearborn Heights Precinct Delegate (20), Library Advisory Board City Council Liaison, Dearborn Heights Commission on Disability Concerns Liaison, Spirit Fest and the Taste of the Heights, Relay for Life (American Cancer Society).

Janet participates in many groups and is: as a member of SEMCOG' s Environment Policy Action Council (EPAC) and Budget and Finance Committees as well as serving as the City's voting alternate. She enjoys learning more about government from classes offered by the Michigan Municipal League (MML).

In 2004, Janet married John (Senior Auditor for Wayne County Commission
Office of Legislative Auditor General ) on August 21st . Janet successfully ran for re-election in 2005. With her family's blessing and support from the community, Janet has filed for the 9th Wayne County Commission seat.

Thanks to all and stay tuned…
